Quick response to sudden cardiac arrest saves Lancaster County custodian

According to Joseph Nichols, director of clinical education at the Pennsylvania College of Health Sciences, if CPR is not started within 2 minutes of a cardiac arrest, brain injury can occur and will progressively worsen over time until compressions are started.

Chances of survival after 10 minutes without compressions are extremely low, Nichols told LNP | LancasterOnline.

Katrina Krasinski, a nurse at the Leola Elementary School in the Conestoga Valley School District, wasted no time administering compressions to head custodian Terry Herr when he experienced a sudden cardiac arrest in the school's cafeteria.

That quick response, and the help of Herr's colleagues, likely saved his life.
