    Such a top-notch read!

Such a top-notch read! This book unpacks the various reasons for violence in the Black community, while also analyzing its social, cultural, economic and personal toll. It was so detailed, using references to Black history, as well as academia, from a variety of researchers. I love how the author Elliott Currie (who is white), doesn’t shy away from the honest truth regarding experiences of violence he mentions in it. My favorite part of the book is when he elaborates on the roots of violence, going back to the days of slavery, ultimately explaining that it all comes back to the fact that the systems in our country are very flawed and broken I also love the way he not only points out the complexities of violence, but also various examples of remedies for reducing violence around the country. I also love that he clearly explains how his analysis doesn’t mean that the entire Black community is problematic. Thank you Elliott for this incredible masterpiece. Everyone must read this book! 1000/10 recommend it! #bookstagram #booknerd #booklover #books #blackcommunity #bookcommunity Image Description: The cover of Elliott Currie’s book, A Peculiar Indifference: The Neglected Toll of Violence on Black America (2020).

May all families affected by the events of this day be comforted by the memories of their loved ones. May all the medical professionals who helped save lives on this day know that their actions will always be remembered. “And the Lord, he it is that doth go before thee; he will be with thee, he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed.” - Deuteronomy 31:8, Authorized KJV “For I know the thoughts I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” - Jeremiah 29:11, Authorized KJV #september11 #gonebutneverforgotten🙏
